Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary
THE MONTEREY BAY NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY
"From deep within the turquoise waters of this jewel in the nation's crown of sanctuaries, life radiates
with the ebb and flow of the tides. Gulls and pelicans soar overhead, slicing through the sea mists on their
long, gracefully arched wings. Harbor seals lounging on offshore boulders exhale with audible sighs. Forests
of giant kelp undulate in the currents, while silver clouds of fish sweep through the dappled light and darkness
of the deep. Thousands of colorful and camouflaged anemones, crabs, shrimp, urchins, and sea stars turn the
seafloor into a mosaic of undersea life."
